Historic Venue Sets the Stage for a Memorable Evening
American singer-songwriter Emma Ruth Rundle delivered a mesmerizing performance at the UT Connewitz in Leipzig, a venue steeped in history as the oldest surviving cinema in the city and one of the oldest in Germany. The concert was sold out with fans eagerly anticipating an evening of deep emotional connection through music.
The evening began with Jon Samuel Ardron, whose piano-driven compositions were filled with raw emotion. His performance was a quiet and intense prelude, setting a reflective mood without any interaction with the audience, allowing the music to speak entirely for itself.
Emma Ruth Rundle’s Captivating Presence
Emma Ruth Rundle then took the stage, opening with “Living With the Black Dog.” Her music can be best described as a fusion of folk, post-rock and ambient elements. On this tour she was alone with her guitar, yet her presence filled the entire venue. The setlist focused on tracks from her album Some Heavy Ocean, each song pulling the audience further into her world. Tracks like “Shadows of My Name” or “Run Forever” showcased her ability to blend a minimalist style with emotionally charged vocals, creating an atmosphere that was both intimate and intense.
After performing one of her most popular songs, “Marked for Death” from the album of the same name, Emma gave the audience the opportunity to choose between “Savage Saint” and “Protection”, which added a unique and personal touch to the concert. The audience’s cheers for the dreamy yet intense “Protection” were notably louder, a choice that wasn’t surprising given its status as another fan favourite.
A Poignant Encore to Close the Night
As the concert drew to a close, Emma returned for an encore, playing “Real Big Sky.” This final song was a perfect conclusion to a night that left the audience deeply moved, with an emotional performance that fulfilled every expectation.
